What is ReferenceChecker.ai?

Reference Checker is a free web tool that verifies academic references, DOIs, and citation details against 12 scholarly data sources including Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex, PubMed, arXiv, and DBLP. It matches each submitted reference to real publication records and shows field-by-field evidence for titles, authors, years, journals, volumes, and identifiers. It is designed for students, researchers, and anyone reviewing bibliographies who wants source-backed verification rather than formatting-only checks.

How to use ReferenceChecker.ai?

Paste references one per line or import a document (PDF, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, TEX, BIB, RIS, MEDLINE, CSL-JSON, ENDNOTE, BBL, MD, HTML) or upload from arXiv. Optionally enable duplicate detection and choose a correction format (APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE, ABNT) and bibliography order. Run the check to see each reference matched against scholarly databases with field-by-field evidence and source-backed corrections. Guests get 100 checks per day; signing in for a free account gives 500 daily credits, resetting at 00:00 UTC.
