What is echo?

echo is a dictation app for Mac that turns your voice into clean written text directly in the app where you're working. It transcribes locally on your Mac and, optionally, polishes the text with your own Claude or ChatGPT account to remove filler words, add punctuation, and adapt the formatting to the application. It detects and mixes up to 25 languages and applies your tone in each app (email, chat, terminal, etc.).

How to use echo?

Download echo on your Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later (the first time, the voice model downloads, about 600 MB). Hold down the dictation key and speak: the text appears written and punctuated where you were. If you enable polishing, connect your Claude or ChatGPT account to improve the text; without polishing, echo works with local transcription only. In Settings, you can define the tone per application (for example, "on Slack, informal").
