What is Acousmos?

Acousmos is a native macOS voice-to-text and AI dictation app that works anywhere on your Mac via a hotkey. It transcribes speech accurately and saves every transcription to a private, searchable archive stored locally on your Mac. The app offers AI clean-up, translation, custom dictionaries, and privacy-focused options including local models and bring-your-own-key support.

How to use Acousmos?

  • Install Acousmos, launch it from the menu bar, and grant Microphone and Accessibility permissions. Choose an input style (Shape, Minimal, Verbatim, Formal) and optional translation style, then press the assigned hotkey, speak naturally, and release — the text appears at your cursor in any app. You can customize hotkeys, set translation target languages, and manage preferences in the app.
